Balance Training for the ADHD Brain
A rocking balance board for ADHD and Autistic adults, built on one of the more interesting ideas in ADHD research: that the cerebellum, your brain's balance centre, is also deeply involved in attention.
Estimated Transit Time: 5 - 10 days.
In ADHD 2.0, Drs Edward Hallowell and John Ratey point to the cerebellum, the structure at the back of your brain that coordinates balance and movement. For decades it was treated as purely a movement centre, but research now links it to attention, emotional regulation, and cognition, and imaging studies have found parts of the cerebellum tend to be slightly smaller and less active in ADHD brains.
Their argument: challenging your balance system stimulates the cerebellum and the vestibular network it's wired into, which is why they recommend balance exercises as part of managing ADHD. A balance board is the simplest way to make that a daily habit rather than a gym trip. Stand on it at your desk, on calls, while reading, and your balance system is working the whole time.
